Holley students learn about
sports management, tour Frontier Field
Holley High School students were among students from six other districts who attended a project ADEPT (A Diversified Enrichment Program for the Talented) on the field of sports management. The two-part program was conducted by Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES to give students an introduction to the multitude of employment opportunities within the multi-billion dollar industry of professional sports.
During the first session, students gathered at BOCES Educational Services Center to hear Dan Mason, general manager of the Rochester Red Wings, and Jeff Holbrook, administrative assistant to the coaches of the Buffalo Sabres, share their career path stories, and examine the responsibilities, challenges and issues faced by the "players" in today's professional sports world. For the second session, students toured Frontier Field and had an opportunity for more in-depth learning about the operations of the Rochester Red Wings.
Students who participated in the seminar were: freshman Joe Gaylord and Josh Newman; sophomores Nate Boyd, David Heschke, Matt Nelson and Matt Paeth; and juniors Steve Mallaber, Travis Mitchell, Mark Trupo and Rob Wright.
