Hilton puts Spencerport on ice
The Hilton Cadets scored two goals in the first 46 seconds of the third period to overcome a 2-1 deficit and beat Spencerport in ice hockey December 23 at Genesee Valley.
After the Rangers took a 1-0 lead in the first period, junior Greg Schwind scored the first goal for Hilton at the buzzer to end the period. He added his second of the game and fifth of the year just fifteen seconds into the third to tie the game at two. Senior Matt Piccone followed 31 seconds later with what would prove to be the game-winning goal from sophomore Mark Steiner and senior defenseman Ryan Lalonde - the second of his two assists. Junior goaltender Cole O'Brien was strong in net allowing only the two goals and was second in the White Division in goals against average at the holiday break.
Spencerport freshman Chris Mark began the scoring with a power play goal in the first period with assists from sophomores Joe Tremaine and Jeff Poweski. Junior Joe Gionta scored his first goal of the year at the 9:44 mark of the second period from junior Brett Milton and sophomore Joe Mulhern to give the Rangers the lead before the third period Cadet turnaround.
Hilton will play Brighton January 3 at Lakeshore and Fairport January 6 at Thomas Creek. Spencerport will take on Churchville-Chili January 2 at Scottsville Arena and Gates-Chili January 6 at Genesee Valley.
