There is a new addition for the Ogden Bears of the Monroe County Pop Warner Football League for the 2001 season as flag football will be added to the tackle program.

The flag football program will be for youths 5-6 as of July 31. The season will run in August and September and game will be against other organizations in the Monroe County Pop Warner Football League.

"The addition of flag football to our program will introduce youngsters to organized football at a younger age," Ogden President Brian Mazurek said. "We get a lot of calls during the year from parents wondering if their child can play football for the Bears and unfortunately we have to turn them away because they weren't old enough to play in the tackle program. We now have a program for those children. When they turn seven, they will be ready for the tackle program."

The flag football program will consist of a 7-8 game schedule and home games will be played at Pineway Ponds Park in Spencerport. The minimum roster size per team is 11 players with eight players needed on the field at all times. More details will be announced at a later date.

The Bears' first registration is slated for Saturday, February 17 at Ogden Recreation from 9 a.m. until non. Registration will be for flag football, tackle football and cheerleading. Ogden expects to field teams on all levels again in 2001 including Mitey Mites (7-9), Jr. Pee Wee (9-10), Pee Wee (11-12), Jr. Midget (12-13) and Midget (13-15). The Bears are two-time defending Tomlin Division champions on the Midget level.
