Saints win first divisional game

The Churchville-Chili Saints hockey team spotted Spencerport a one-goal lead before roaring back with three unanswered goals enroute to a 4-2 win January 2 at Scottsville Arena.

Rangers' freshman Chris Mark scored on a rebound off Jeff Poweski's shot at the 5:39 mark of the first period before the Saints' Joe Ramirez intercepted a clearing attempt in the slot and scored to tie the game 1-1. Ryan Easton gave Churchville-Chili the lead when he chipped the puck ahead to himself, skated around the defense and scored. That was followed 55 seconds later by Ramirez' second goal of the game by again knocking down a clearing attempt and one timing a shot off the goaltender's pad for a 3-1 lead.

Spencerport closed to within one goal on a wonderful pass from sophomore Joe Mulhern in the slot to Poweski, but the Saints put the game away with just 2 minutes left on Easton's second goal of the game from Lyndsay Wall and Mike Lima.

Freshman Dan Ramirez faced 41 shots including 28 in the final two periods to pick up the win in net for the Saints who improve to 1-6, tied with Spencerport in the White Division. "Getting outshot and coming up with a win shows that we're starting to play with confidence," Saints coach Jim Jackson said after the game.

The Saints have a divisional battle with Hilton January 16 at Scottsville Arena after Spencerport plays Batavia in the earlier game - same day, same place.
