Youth Hall of Fame Nominations
sought for Spencerport Area C of C
The promotion of the quality of life in Spencerport has been the primary focus for the Spencerport Area Chamber of Commerce since its inception thirteen years ago. A new program, introduced last year with the corporate support of M&T Bank, continued that tradition.
The Spencerport Youth Hall of Fame, as this program is known, recognizes 11th and/or 12th grade high school students who have demonstrated leadership and community spirit through volunteer contributions and exceptional personal achievement or employment. Special consideration will also be given to those young people who have overcome a life challenge or personal tragedy.
Nominations may be made by high school teachers, counselors or administrators, community youth agencies, any Spencerport area business person or other employer of any student eligible to be a candidate. A candidate may also be nominated by any resident of the Town of Ogden or Parma in the 14559 zip code area.
Nominees for the Youth Hall of Fame must reside in the Town of Ogden, or the Town of Parma in the 14559 zip code area. The nominees may attend any public school which serves the described geographic area or any private or parochial high school.
Nominating forms are available at numerous locations around the community including all appropriate high schools. Nominations must be received by Monday, March 5. They are to be sent to the Spencerport Area Chamber of Commerce at P.O. Box 7, Spencerport, NY 14559.
A committee comprised of representatives of the Chamber of Commerce will review all nominations and make a selection based on award criteria.
Hall of Fame recipients will be honored at the meeting of the Ogden Town Board on Wednesday, May 23.
"We're very excited about this program," said Chairperson Dennis Pelletier. "Recognizing these young people is a combined effort of employers, school and civic organizations," Pelletier added.
"Spencerport has much in which to be proud and this program recognizes a part of that," said Tim Carr, president of the Spencerport Area Chamber of Commerce.
