Blue Devils volleyball sweeps Hilton
Second-ranked Brockport rebounded from a loss to top-ranked Webster and defeated Hilton on the road 15-10, 15-4, and 15-5 on January 13. Junior Kim Demmans racked up 25 assists to go with her three kills and four aces to pace the Blue Devils attack. Senior Stephanie Ayres added 10 kills and two aces and junior Lynn Sorel contributed 8 kills and two aces.
Leading 10-3 in the first game, Hilton pulled to within three points behind sophomore Cori Mosher's two aces and five consecutive points. Brockport head coach Mary Lou Blodgett then called a time-out to regroup. "I could see in the players' eyes the same look at Webster earlier when everything starts going wrong at once, and we were determined not to let it happen again." From that point on, the Blue Devils outscored the Cadets 35-12 to improve their record to 7-2, 11-2.
Sophomore Jen Whigham led Hilton with three kills. Junior Laura Mikels had seven assists and three aces and junior Allie Wagner added 5 digs. Hilton drops to 3-6, 7-6.
Brockport travels to Irondequoit January 25 to start the final week of the regular season; Hilton is at East Rochester January 23.
