CC sixth-grader wins local International Peace Poster Contest

Douglass Bish, a sixth-grade student at Churchville-Chili Middle School, is the Churchville winner of the Lions Club Peace Poster Contest, qualifying him to compete for the international grand prize. Douglass' winning entry now advances to round two district competition, where his entry will compete with other area winners. Douglass' entry is among more than 325,000 entries worldwide.

The local Lions Club judges chose Douglass' entry because they believed it best exemplified the contest's theme, "United in Peace." Douglass was awarded a framed Certificate of Achievement and a $50 savings bond from the local Lions Club. Second- and third-place winners Kirstie Linza and Justin Trzcinski, both seventh-graders, also received certificates and savings bonds. Fourth- and fifth-place winners Jamie Quinnell and Shami Doward, also seventh-graders, received certificates plus $10 gift certificates.

Lions Club International sponsors the peace poster contest to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere. Ultimately, one grand prize winner will be selected from 24 international finalists. The grand prize includes $2,500 plus an all-expense paid trip to Indianapolis for the awards ceremony in July.
