Spencerport student receives
'Do the Right Thing,' award
Spencerport High School student Felicia King has received the Rochester Police Department's "Do the Right Thing" award. The award ceremony took place January 11 at the Rochester Public Safety Building. Police Chief Robert Duffy and Mayor William Johnson presented the award to Felicia and four other area students.
Felicia's parents nominated her after she helped her younger sister achieve an important goal. Felicia, a twelfth grader, helped her eight-year old sister, Sheila, run in Bernabi Elementary School's Turkey Trot in November. This run was a challenge for Sheila, who has scoliosis and other physical limitations. Felicia encouraged her sister to try the run, than ran with her and helped by carrying her for part of the run. When Sheila finished the race, Felicia gave her sister the medal that Felicia had won in the same race seven years ago.
In her nomination of Felicia, her parents also noted that she volunteers with the Special Olympics.
