Among the presenters are keynote speakers Dr. Gil and Tanya Gockley of Rochester, whose book, Loving is Natural, Parenting is Not, describes ways families can maintain dignity and raise healthy children despite the inevitable storms of growing up. Workshops span the range of topics related to children's academic, emotional and social development as well as character development, learning styles, issues of "tween and teen' girls as well as "Video Games: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly."
Four two-hour seminars along with 37 hour-long workshops and over 25 vendors are on the program. Registration is minimal: $2.50 each; $5 per family which includes childcare if registration is mailed by March 1. Registration at the door on March 24 is $4 per person and $7 per family. Among the presenters are Dr. Dennis Boike, James Feely, Kevin Dailor and Dr. John Cooper, Superintendent of Schools in Hilton.
Sponsored by the Hilton Parent Network of parent-teacher organizations and booster clubs as well as the Hilton School District, Hilton-Parma Recreation, Spring Story Festival and the Hilton Youth Asset Development Program, Parent University is expected to attract parent of preschoolers through college.
"It is a unique opportunity for people to take time to think about their role in our kids' lives," said Dr. Cooper, who will officiate opening ceremonies. "It's a chance to meet people who are involved everyday in working with youth: at home, in classrooms, scouts, sports, music and other youth-development activities."
Lunch, entertainment and book-signing by two authors, Willo Davis Roberts and Helen Lester who are appearing in conjunction with Hilton's annual Spring Story Festival, will be part of the conference.
