Brockport volleyball finishes #2
The Brockport Blue Devils girls volleyball team defeated Greece Arcadia in three straight games 15-6, 16-14 and 15-13 in the Section V semi-finals at Roberts Wesleyan February 6. With the victory, they advanced to the sectional final February 8, where they lost to Webster for the third time this season 15-12, 15-12, and 17-15.
In the semi-finals, freshman Jamie Hugelmaier led the way with 6 aces, 4 kills, 2 blocks and 11 digs. Junior Lynn Sorel had 10 kills in the match including 6 in the deciding third game. Senior Stephanie Ayres added 7 kills and a block for the final point of the third game and senior Meghan Schuth had 15 digs.
The Blue Devils fell behind in game one 4-0 before rattling off eight straight points to take the lead for good. In game two, Arcadia led 14-12 before Brockport scored four straight points to win. Head Coach Mary Lou Blodgett, coaching in her final season, said afterward, "We haven't been much of a comeback team this year. I think this is the first time we had our backs to the wall and were able to come back to win." Brockport took the lead in game three 5-4 and never looked back setting up the rematch in the final.
Seniors Jamie Bahr, Dawn McCrudden, Schuth and Ayres played in their final high school match in the final versus Webster.
