Gold Medals for all
On February 15, Kendall Elementary's auditorium was transformed into an Olympic stadium. Judy Weber, Kendall's Adaptive Physical Education Teacher, stood proud as she watched her special education and kindergarten students parade in for the Olympics opening ceremony while waving flags, banners, and ribbons.
"The students have worked hard and had a lot of fun," said Weber. "This is just one way to show what our students have learned."
Students performed dances from around the world, some of which included the Sailor's Dance, Shoe Maker's Dance, the Twist, and the Chicken Dance.
Special guest speaker and former Olympian Phil Lanzatella of Holley spoke at the ceremony. "The Olympics is everything your teacher has been teaching you," said Lanzatella. "It's about team work, friendship, and working together to accomplish a goal."
Lanzatella brought Olympic medals to show the students, and at the end of the ceremony Weber presented each student with their own 'gold medal' to keep.
Lanzatella ended with advice for the students. "Whatever your goal
give it one hundred percent!"
