New businesses coming to Sweden
The Sweden Planning Board is looking at several proposals for businesses looking to locate in the town. According to Assessor Alan Bader, the Family Dollar Store has made an application to operate a 9,600 square foot store in the former Bells Plaza. Other projects include a Walk the Walk Shoe Store next to Subway in the Brockport Commons Plaza and Edward Jones Financial Advisors next to Verizon, also in the Brockport Commons Plaza.
In business from the February 27 town board meeting: Seymour Library Representative David Stettner reported that the library has amended its fees and charges to be the same as other libraries in Monroe County. Some fees increased, others decreased, Stettner said. Seymour is also subject to the new Monroe County Library System fine collection procedures. Fines in excess of $50 will be turned over to a collection agency for resolution.
Captain Ted Wright of the Monroe County Sheriffs Office (Zone C) presented the 2000 year-end report of sheriffs activity in the town. Wright called 2000 a "pretty normal" year. The number of forgery arrests took a big jump, Wright said, as the use of stolen credit cards climbed. The department had also increased morning speed enforcement patrols in Sweden Village in response to complaints from residents about speeders in the residential neighborhood.
Councilman Norman Wright and Highway Superintendent Craig Smith reported on their trip to Mansfield, Ohio to tour a sewer pump system factory. Wright said the development of the Redman Road park lands will necessitate some type of sewer system.
