Cadet boys move on
The Hilton Cadets boys basketball team jumped out to a 7-0 lead and eventually led by as many as 26 points in a 71-52 victory over Greece Athena in sectional quarterfinal action February 24.
Leading by just five points after the first quarter and eight points at half-time, Hilton outgunned the Trojans 24-8 in the third quarter to pull away. Cadet head coach Ory Mee said, "It all started with the defensive play in our own end. That forced some turnovers which led to some easy baskets coming back the other way."
Senior Ryan Mee used his inside and outside shooting to lead all scorers with 25 points. Senior Mike Mikolaichik had three 3-pointers among his 16 points, while junior Jarrod Rapke chipped in 10 points.
Fifth seeded Hilton advances to face Edison Tech, who upset top-ranked Rush-Henrietta, in the semi-finals at the Blue Cross Arena.
