Sweden receives tower application
SBA and Cingular Wireless have applied to the Town of Sweden for permission to erect a 100 foot tall telecommunications tower at 441 Sweden-Ogden Townline Road.
The applicants had originally submitted plans for a 175 foot high tower on the site last April but subsequently withdrew those plans.
The new proposal calls for a lattice work tower with the capability to carry three to four tenants. Representatives from the companies say that Cingular is trying to improve its coverage in the town. Cingular already transmits from Sweden on Fourth Section Road just east of the Orleans County line. Reducing the tower height will mean that the company will have to seek a companion location near Route 104 to provide complete coverage on the north end of town and in Clarkson, the representatives said.
A public hearing on the proposal will be set sometime in the near future.
In other business from the March 13 town board meeting: Eagle Scout candidate Ken Arnold of Troop 86 outlined his plan to blaze a hiking trail through the new town park on Redman Road. Arnold and volunteers will clear the trail on April 21 and 28, then spread mulch on May 5.
The board authorized the issue of $40,000 worth of serial bonds for the purpose of purchasing a 2001 tandem axle 10-wheel diesel powered truck. The total cost of the truck is $114,861.
A public hearing was scheduled for April 10 at 7:15p.m. regarding amendments to Sweden Code prohibiting truck traffic on certain roads. A schedule of the affected roads is available at the town hall.
The board accepted the resignation of Justice Sharon Kehoe. The board expects to make a temporary appointment.
The position will be filled by voters in the November election.
