Applications sought for Walker FD scholarship
High school seniors are invited to apply for a $700 scholarship awarded by the Walker Fire Department Exempts Inc.
The one-time grant is presented annually to a graduating senior who lives within the Walker Fire District and who plans to pursue their education.
Other qualifying criteria include:
Applicant is a dependent (i.e., child or stepchild), of a Walker Fire Department Fireperson, living in same household.
Applicant is an active member of the Walker Fire Explorers Post in good standing.
Applicant is an active Walker Fireperson or Spouse.
The winner shall be selected on the basis of combined scholastic achievement, community service, personal merit, and financial need.
A completed application package includes: a completed application form; two (2) teacher and one (1) community leader letters of recommendation; typed personal essay outlining career orientation, scholastic achievements, and personal involvement/contributions related to community or other non-school organizations; typed summary of anticipated out-of-pocket expense that will be incurred in the financing of the post secondary education training that will be pursued.
Completed application packages can be mailed to the Walker Exempts or given to: George Doles (964-3401) or Charles Morgante (392-3873), by April 30.
A committee appointed by the Exempts president will interview the applicants. All interviews will be completed by the end of May. The winner will be notified before the end of the first week in June.
Presentation of the award will take place at the winner's high school graduation ceremony; or in another appropriate venue as determined by the Exempts Board of Trustees.
