celebrate success at Scholastic Art Show

Several Churchville-Chili Senior High School art students were honored at the 2001 Scholastic Art Awards and Exhibition, this year held at Rochester Institute of Technology. This exhibition, launched in 1923 by Scholastic Inc. to encourage and reward creativity in our nation's classrooms, offers regional and national recognition for talented visual art students. This year's exhibition featured more than 1,200 works from the Rochester/Finger Lakes ten-county region.

Churchville-Chili seniors Marisa Krol, Jason Barber and Joe Palermo were honored as Portfolio Scholarship Nominees and awarded Gold Keys for their outstanding portfolios. Marisa Krol received four additional awards for three other entries: one Gold Key, two Silver Keys and the monetary award for Excellence in Printmaking. Jennifer Peck, Todd Campbell and Amanda Barlog also received Gold Keys. Silver Key awards went to Sara Valdivia, Christina Walker, Kelly Basset and Jason Barber. Jennifer Alliet, Illean Beavers and Patrick Jagar received Honorable Mention recognition. Rachel Ward, Rachael Hammel, James Corwin, Alisha Lonnen and Alex Tosto were also among the students honored at RIT.

The highest award in the show is the Gold Key for works demonstrating overall excellence, creativity and personal vision. All Gold Key winners, including the Portfolio Scholarship nominees, have been sent to New York City for the national competition, which includes awards of cash and scholarship.
