Spencerport school report card shows improvement
Initiatives begun in the past few years are showing results as Spencerport students improve in key areas measured by the State Education Department. The 1999-2000 New York State School Report Card was just released March 14.
The district showed dramatic improvement in three of four key benchmarks. In fourth-grade English Language Arts, the report card shows a 16 percent increase in the number of students scoring above the New York State learning standards. In fourth-grade Math, there was a 10 percent increase and in eighth-grade Math, an 18 percent increase. Student performance also improved in eighth-grade English Language Arts. In addition, 91 percent of the high school students taking the brand new Math A exam passed.
"We are pleased with these results," said Superintendent Phillip Langton. "They show we are on the right track. We will continue to refine our curriculum to ensure continued improvement."
