Churchville-Chili students explore new frontiers
Churchville-Chili Middle School students learned about outer space and the deep sea during a weeklong Project ADEPT ( A Diversified Enrichment Program for the Talented) workshop earlier this month.
The workshop, entitled "Exploring New Frontiers," allowed students to examine the concept of exploration. Expert visitors from the "frontiers" of the arctic, outer space, medicine and deep sea exploration shared information about new discoveries in each area.
Throughout the week, students learned that there are many "new frontiers" being explored that have the potential to impact the quality of their lives. Peter Debes was the resident scientist for the week. He was one of the nine nationally selected science teachers who wrote curriculum for the Jason Project, and he has led expeditions to places around the world via his adventure company, Nature Discoveries, Inc. He is a recently retired science teacher from Wilson Magnet High School in Rochester.
