Chili completes Park and Recreation Master Plan
According to Chili Supervisor Steve Hendershott, the town board has received and accepted the new Parks and Recreation Master Plan for 2001-2006.
Appointed by the town board in February 2000, the Parks and Recreation Master Plan Committee was made up of Chili residents and town staff members who have knowledge of these topics and were willing to spend many hours of volunteer work. The committee consisted of Assistant Recreation Director Eric Bacon, the Senior Center Director Tricia Schirmer, Parks Foreman Larry Crozier, Recreation Advisory Committee Chair Marlene Kretser, David Meyer, Alex Urda, and Councilman Michael Slattery as the town board liaison.
The committee met several times each month over 13 months. Past recreation programs were analyzed, future needs were forecast, amenities in the parks were scrutinized, usage of the parks and participation in the recreation programs were reviewed.
The result of this effort was the first ever five-year Master Plan for parks and recreation. "This is an excellent guideline for these two departments for the next five years," Hendershott said. "I must stress that a guideline is exactly what the plan is intended to be." The plan, according to Hendershott, can be easily modified to account for any changing needs. "The plan will serve as a guide to focus our efforts to continue to provide first rate recreation programs and top quality parks for our residents to enjoy."
