Spencerport trustees adopt 2001-2002 village budget
The Village of Spencerport Board of Trustees unanimously approved the $5.8 million 2001-2002 budget following a public hearing April 4 at which no residents spoke.
The tax rate in the Village of Spencerport remains the same for the fifth consecutive year. A homeowner in the village continues to pay $1.77 per $1000 of assessed value. The owner of a $90,000 home pays a yearly village tax bill of $159.30.
The villages general fund is up about 17 percent, to $1,793,418 from last years budgeted amount of $1,538,737.
Spencerport Mayor Theodore Walker said village officials and staff work hard to keep the villages tax rate stable. "Its a lot of work," he said. "And its not only this board, but other boards in the past which have done an excellent job planning for the future of the village."
The villages utility funds are self-supporting and do not impact the tax rate. This year the water fund budget is $875,128, up from $470,826 and includes a $300,000 capital improvement project. Water rates will increase to $2.91 per 1,000 gallons of use at this time, and will be reevaluated later in the year.
The sewer fund is up this year to $911,216 from $596,172 last year, and includes rehabilitation and upgrade projects. Revenues have also increased and the sewer user fee will increase two percent. The electric franchise fund budget is $2,176,305.
In other news: Spencerport Department of Public Works Superintendent Thomas West reported that the sidewalk project is already underway this year, and there is leftover money from last years improvement budget. He said crews have begun work on sidewalks on West Avenue.
New summer hours for the village office were also approved by trustees at Wednesday's meeting. The village office will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
