Two Churchville-Chili students selected for VFW Award
Two C-C students have been selected to receive the Veterans of Foreign Wars Annual High School Merit Awards as part of the VFW and its Ladies Auxiliary's Loyalty Day commemoration. David Johnson and Jessica Dawalt will receive their award at a dinner on Sunday, April 29 at the Mapledale Party House.
A high school boy and girl from the senior class are selected based on their leadership qualities, their citizenship and their service to their school. Science teacher John Prouty says Johnson is "an outstanding young man who leads in the classroom and on the athletic field. He is enthusiastic, outgoing and very focused on success and the type of behavior that determines it." Math teacher and peer tutoring leader Michele Telle says that Dawalt, a math tutor, "is always concerned for the well-being of each of the students she tutors." Telle adds, "Jessica goes beyond what I expect of a peer tutor."
