Hilton Board of Education to fill three seats
Three positions on the seven-member Hilton School District Board of Education are open and part of this year's budget vote and board election May 15. Prospective candidates must complete a nominating petition available at the Board Clerk's office at 225 West Avenue, Hilton. Candidates must be a qualified voter of the district and a district resident for at least one year prior to the election. Each petition must contain at least 25 signatures of qualified, registered voters of the district and are due April 17.
A seminar acquainting prospective candidates to the Hilton School Board will be held Tuesday, April 10 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Board Meeting Room of the West Avenue Building. To request a petition or register for the seminar, call the Board Clerk, Patricia Unterborn, at 392-1000 ext. 7099. Aspects of school district governance, description of the board member's role and time commitment will be discussed by current board members.
Absentee ballots for the May 15 Budget Vote and Board Election are available at the Board Clerk's office for persons who are unable to appear at the vote due to vacation outside the county, hospitalization, illness or physical disability or because their duties, occupation, business or college require them to be outside the county on May 15. Qualified residents may request a ballot in person from the Board Clerk during business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Completed applications must be received by the Board Clerk at least seven days (May 8) prior to the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter. Completed applications are examined and reviewed by the Board Clerk. Residents whose application forms are approved will receive an absentee ballot.
Completed ballots must be returned to the Board Clerk's office no later than 4 p.m. on May 15. District voter registration (not Monroe County Board of Elections) will be held May 8 and 9 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the West Avenue and Northwood buildings and May 8 and May 9 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Board Meeting Room of the West Avenue Building.
