Holley eighth-graders shadow area businesspeople
Every year, Holley eighth-graders get a "behind the scenes" look at local businesses thanks to a shadowing program that is part of their Home and Careers class. Dr. Barbara Jones, Home and Careers teacher, matches students with area businesses where they spend the morning learning about the business, industry or profession of the employees they are shadowing and may also practice hands-on tasks associated with the jobs. When they return to school, they write thank you notes to their sponsors.
"The partnership between the school and local businesses benefits our students by giving them the opportunity to experience 'real life' work in a career field, motivates them to expand and meet their career goals, and gives them a chance to see relationships between their educational experience and career choices," said Dr. Jones.
In an effort to have as many occupations available for students to shadow, area businesses and professional offices interested in participating in next year's Shadowing Day are encouraged to contact Dr. Jones at 638-6337, ext. 2145.
