Roberts Wesleyan Raiders
instruct local girls at basketball clinic
On April 7, the Roberts Wesleyan College women's basketball team hosted one of two clinics for girls and boys at Northstar Christian Academy along with Grace and Truth Youth basketball. The Raiders spent time teaching the 8-12 year olds how to shoot, dribble and pass in several different stations at they got to interact with the college athletes. Mark Palma, director of Grace and Truth Ministries, said, "We were impressed by the Roberts' players passion as they showed great dedication and willingness to teach these young basketball players."
The basketball clinics provide not only a chance for college athletes to interact with these young players but also a chance to reach even more young people, as the Roberts Wesleyan women's team is conducting a mission trip to Puerto Rico in May and these clinics will help fund that trip.
While in Puerto Rico, the Raiders will join with the Wesleyan Community Church in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, providing a time for the team to teach basketball to the local community. The Raiders will also be training at the Olympic Training Village where they will compete in several exhibition games against the Puerto Rican national team. Roberts will also take part in the Wesleyan Community Church's Friday night youth meeting and a Sunday morning worship service.
The Raiders will hold a second basketball clinic on Saturday, April 28 at Northstar Christian Academy. For information about the clinic or to contribute to the Puerto Rico mission trip, contact Roberts Head Women's Coach Chris R. Williams at 716-594-6357.
