Celebrate trees at Springdale Farm
Tree periscopes, soil boxes and pulleys to measure the height of a tree are some of the new children's interactive exhibits in the Springdale Farm Enchanted Woods. The public is invited to use the new exhibits at a Tree Celebration on Saturday, May 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Springdale Farm, 696 Colby Street in Ogden. The Tree Celebration is a free event.
The hands-on exhibits are designed to teach children and families about the importance of trees and their effect on climate, animals, plants and the earth. The exhibits were funded by a grant from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and developed by students from the Rochester Institute of Technology School of Industrial Design, with assistance from Minds On! Consultants. Using children's drawings of trees, a team of Brighton High School students created the signs for the exhibits. A group of volunteers from Rochester Gas & Electric installed the exhibits in the Enchanted Woods on the United Way Day of Caring, April 25.
In addition to the tree exhibits, farm visitors can meet and pet the newborn lambs and other animals in the barn. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
