Girl Scouts honor volunteers from Brockport
The Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley, Inc. honored outstanding volunteers at its Tenth Annual Recognition Gala, "Hats off to Volunteers," on April 26.
GSGV presented its top award, the Thanks Badge II, to Alice "Dutch" Dutcher of Brockport for long-standing, outstanding service to the Girl Scouts.
Dutcher received the Thanks Badge in 1964 when she was Executive Director of the Tonawanda Council and it merged with GSGV. At that time, she became a GSGV staff member.
Her support of the Council, her unfaltering loyalty and energy, and the example she sets for the girls, adults and community are legendary. She has tirelessly responded to any call for help from the Council. She has been steadfast in her service to others. She encourages younger Girl Scouts to get involved, help the community and reach out to one another.
Dutcher served as a member of the 80th Anniversary Committee, the Promise Pathway Steering Committee, the Order of the Silver Trefoil and the Sites and Facilities Committee. She is also a long-time member of the Council's Adult Recognition Committee.
GSGV awarded an Appreciation Pin to Ann Marie Hamlin of Brockport for providing outstanding service to Girl Scouts. Hamlin has served as troop leader and cookie mom for two troops, cookie manager and registrar for the Brockport area. She has completed first-aid and community CPR training, as well as all levels of outdoor training. She helps the girls improve society by participating in many community service projects. Hamlin has also helped the Catholic members in her community complete the religious recognition awards for Brownie and Junior age levels.
GSGV presented the President's Award to the Brockport Service Unit for the fifth consecutive year. The President's Award recognizes the outstanding efforts of a service unit toward the attainment of the council's goals and objectives during a membership year. Criteria include providing appropriate training for service team personnel, appointing a service team that reflects the diversity of the area served, implementing recruitment plans to maintain and increase diversity, maintaining communication with all service unit members, communicating with community contacts, and retaining girls and leaders in troops/groups.
