Brockport squeaks out a win
Scoreless after eight innings, senior Katie Schweinfurth drove a two-out hit just past the glove of the shortstop and into center field to score Amanda Thompson from second base and give the Blue Devils a 1-0 win over Victor May 5. The RBI was Schweinfurth's 14th of the season on 21 hits.
Senior Sheila Devine continued her strong pitching efforts allowing only five hits over nine innings while striking out four, giving her over 100 strikeouts this season. The win was Brockport's first this season in extra innings and their first win in a one-run game going winless in the previous four. "I thought we had the better chances to score throughout the game - they just kept making the plays," said Brockport head coach Curt Johnson after the game.
Victor had a chance to take the lead in the eighth inning with runners at first and third with no one out, but a caught stealing and a missed suicide squeeze snuffed out the rally.
Brockport only had one runner reach third base before the winning run was scored in their 5-hit attack. Lisa Taber had two of the Blue Devils' five hits.
