Sports demonstrations highlight Rochester's top sports
Monroe Community College invites the public to attend four free demonstrations of some of the region's most popular sports including fencing, tae kwon-do and tennis continuing through Sunday, June 17.
The area's top instructors in each sport will share basic and advanced techniques, as well as field questions. All demonstrations will be held at the ESL Sports Centre on the college's Brighton campus.
Five-time Olympian Michael Marx, member of the United States Fencing Association and affiliated with the Rochester Fencing Centre, will demonstrate basic and advanced techniques of one of the original sports in the modern Olympic Games, and share the history of fencing, on Saturday, May 19 at 2 p.m.
Fifth Degree Black Belt Master Instructor Dwayne McKinney from the Unified Tae Kwon-Do Gold Fist School will provide a brief history of the art and an array of basic and advanced techniques of an Olympic sport that was added to the line-up at the 2000 Summer Games, on Saturday, June 2 at 2 p.m.
Greg Yahia, Midtown Athletic Club director of Adult Group Lessons, has been teaching tennis for more than 25 years. Yahia will demonstrate basic serving techniques and share the history of the game, on Sunday, June 17 at 2 p.m.
