Rangers sweep Saints
The Spencerport Rangers swept a doubleheader against Churchville-Chili by identical 6-3 scores May 7. In the first game, Josh Knapp was 2-2 with a walk and two runs scored and two RBI to back Justin Colby's four-hit pitching effort. The Rangers put the game away by scoring four runs in the second inning. Dan Rudd accounted for two of the three Saints' runs with a two-run home run. Rich Pozzuolo picked up a save by pitching the final outs for the Rangers.
In the second game, the Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a blast to center field by Tim Nanry. In the bottom of the first inning, Aaron Papp drove in Knapp on a fielder's choice before Spencerport took the lead for good in the second inning on Knapp's three-run home run scoring Gil Burgmaster and Seth Louden. Later in the same inning, Mendola tripled to drive in Shannon Brinson to make the score 5-2 Rangers.
Churchville-Chili's Andrew Souls cut the lead to 5-3 with a two-out home run to left field before Pozzuolo tripled home Brinson to make the final 6-3 Rangers.
Burgmaster started for the Rangers and allowed only four hits and struck out five batters in four innings before Mendola pitched the final inning for the save.
Spenerport improved their record to 7-4 in league action, 7-9 overall with the two wins.
