Cindy J. De Felice, a resident of Bergen, was named to the dean's list for the spring 2001 semester at Alfred University. She is a senior in the NYS College of Ceramics. Students must earn at least a 3.3 grade point average to qualify for dean's list. De Felice is an art and design major at Alfred University and a graduate of Byron-Bergen High School. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marion P. De Felice of Bergen.


Jennifer A. Boerner was awarded the Freeman-ASIA Scholarship at Boston University. She will study abroad this summer with Prof. Hideto Tsuji of Japan and Prof. Shoh Yamada of Harvard University. Excavation will begin July 2001 on a fourth century main burial chamber in Miyagi Prefecture in Northern Japan.

Boerner is a junior at Boston University majoring in archeology and was named to the dean's list for the fall semester. She is also active in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Golden Key Scholars and GEAR-UP program for under privileged students in the Boston School system in which she tutors.

A 1999 graduate of Brockport High School, she is the daughter of Stephen and Teri Boerner of Hamlin.


Jory Crowell, a 1999 Churchville-Chili High School graduate, received the top physics student award from Professor Jerrold L. McNatt, Ph.D., Chairman of the Department of Physics for Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts.

A physics major, Crowell has been on the dean's list each semester and maintains a GPA of 3.77. He has served as class president his freshman and sophomore years, is involved in campus sports and will study overseas next year.

He is the son of Paul and Elaine Crowell of Ogden.


Marie Fiero has been named to Hobart and William Smith College's Laurel Society. This honor is given to women entering the junior class who have demonstrated academic excellence and leadership. She has also received a Merck Scholarship and will be doing research at the Cornell University Research station this summer.

Fiero is the daughter of Jack and Nadine Fiero and a 1999 Hilton High School graduate.


Colleen Fenity, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence E. Fenity of Spencerport, has been named the recipient of the Carter Family Prize Scholarship at Hamilton College. The Carter Family Prize Scholarship is awarded to a student who excels in the visual or performing arts, is a talented writer and maintains a minimum average of 85. Fenity is a junior majoring in English at Hamilton, and is a graduate of E. J. Wilson Senior High School.


Jonathan David Farley, a 1987 graduate of Brockport Central School District, has been awarded a 2001-2001 Fulbright Distinguished Scholar Award, which he will use to conduct research at the University of Oxford while on sabbatical from his job as assistant professor of mathematics at Vanderbilt University.

After graduating from Brockport, Farley went on to Harvard University, where he graduated summa cum laude and earned a Marshall Scholarship to pursue a doctorate in mathematics at the University of Oxford. In 1998, he solved a mathematics problem in the field of "Lattice Theory" that had been unsolved for 34 years and in 1999, he solved a problem posed by an eminent mathematician at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that had remained unsolved for 24 years. Farley, who has been named an Ebony Magazine "Leader of the Future," joins only three other scholars in the country who received Fulbright awards in the most competitive United States-United Kingdom program.

Farley is the son of Drs. Rawle and Ena Farley, both retired professors from SUNY Brockport. Ena also served from 1989 to 1994 on the Brockport Board of Education and is a current member of the New York State Board of Regents.


Natalie Cushman, of Hilton, was named to the dean's list for the spring term at Elmira College. Cushman is the daughter of Stephen and Lora Cushman. She majors in biochemistry. Cushman is a 1998 graduate of Hilton Central High School.


Lisa Johnson, of Brockport, was named to the dean's list for the fall term at Elmira College. Johnson is the daughter of Raymond and Kathryn Johnson. She majors in psychology. Johnson is a 1998 graduate of Brockport High School.


Rebecca Houghton, of Hilton, was named to the dean's list for the fall term at Elmira College. Houghton is the daughter of Randall and Lory Houghton. She majors in mathematics education. Houghton is a graduate of Hilton Central High School.


Julie M. Leiston, of Spencerport, has graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree with high honors in polymer chemistry. Leiston studied in RIT's chemistry department, College of Science. She is the daughter of Patricia Leiston and the late Lawrence Leiston and a 1997 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School.


Jillian R. Leasure was among 300 Alfred State College students honored during the annual Honors Convocation. Leasure has been secretary of the commuter council in her first semester at Alfred and has been on the dean's list. Leasure is the daughter of William Leasure, of Scio, and Cindy Leasure, of Hilton. Leasure was a 2000 graduate of Arkport Central School.


JoAnn Pape has joined Monroe Litho as the company's Accounting Coordinator.

Pape will coordinate Monroe Litho's accounting system as it relates to various customer accounts and also interfaces with Monroe Litho's parent company, Wallace Computer Services, Lisle, Illinois.

Prior to joining the company, Pape was associated with Discovery Huther Doyle. She is a graduate of Monroe Community College and holds an A.S. degree - Business Administration plus an A.A.S. - Health Information Technology. The Spencerport resident also attended New Horizons Computer Learning Center and earned an MCP certification.


Jack Antinore Sr. graduated May 12 from SUNY Brockport, summa cum laude. He also received the Department of Social Work Marghi Rich Award and Department Scholar Award for 2001 and in 2000 he was awarded the Outstanding Junior of the Year Award. Antinore is employed at the Episcopal Church Home on Mt. Hope Avenue, Rochester as a social worker. He resides in Holley with his wife, Emily, and dog, Bo.


Shannon A. Johnson, of Bergen, has received the Medical Laboratory Technology Award, at Alfred State University. This award is sponsored by the Physical and Life Sciences Department and presented annually to senior medical laboratory technology students who have demonstrated academic excellence and professional competence and who have contributed significantly to the program. Johnson is also a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Johnson is a 1999 graduate of Byron-Bergen Jr.-Sr. High School.


Renee Stickles, a 1998 graduate of Brockport High School, was named to the president's list and the dean's list at Gannon University for the fall 2000 semester. Stickles is majoring in criminal justice and completing minors in management information systems and in risk management.


Kristy M. Urban, of Bergen, was honored recently at SUNY Oswego's Honors Convocation. She received the Outstanding Finance Student Award. Urban, a senior studying finance at Oswego, is the daughter of Donald and Debra Urban.


Sandra Smith, LPN, was named Lakeside Health System's Employee of the Month for the month of May. Smith, of Brockport, is Licensed Practical Nurse who has worked at the hospital for more than 25 years. Most recently she has been working in the Ambulatory Surgery Unit.

Smith was nominated for the honor by her co-workers who cited her reliability, dependability, positive attitude and motivation as sources of inspiration for others in the unit.


Jeffrey C. Povelaites, a resident of Rochester, was named to the dean's list for the spring 2001 semester at Alfred University. He is a freshman in the NYS College of Ceramics. Students must earn at least a 3.3 grade point average to qualify for dean's list.

Povelaites is a ceramic engineering major at Alfred University.

A graduate of Aquinas Institute, Rochester, Povelaites is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Povelaites.


Alysia Niccole Adams (a 1997 graduate of Hilton High School), daughter of Randel and Harriet Adams, has completed her undergraduate studies at SUNY Brockport, earning a bachelor of science degree in chemistry with a minor degree in math. She will be entering graduate school at Ohio State University in the fall where she will be pursuing her doctorate degree in pharmacy.


Marilyn and Ronald Terpening, Chili residents and business owners, are among the first 150 people in the nation to earn the title of "certified organic skin care consultants." The certification was achieved in Ventura, California, following a three-day training and exam at the end of April. They are also coordinating the local efforts for a national speaker's bureau designed to communicate the health dangers associated with the numerous chemicals used in skin care, personal care and household products. They completed their certification program under the direction of Linda Chae, nationally recognized organic skin care expert and head of the C.A.R.E.S. for Life and C.A.R.E.S. for Kids Foundation, LaVeta, Colorado. (C.A.R.E.S. stands for Chemical Awareness Research Education & Solutions. Those interested in learning more can call 889-3228.


Army Pvt. Michael D. Davis has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. During the training, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and traditions. Davis is the son of Patrick and Gloria Davis of Hamlin. The private is a 1998 graduate of Brockport High School.
