Rangers beat Saints on the road
Spencerport's girls softball team improved their record to 13-4 with a 3-2 win in Churchville-Chili May 14 to begin the final week of the regular season.
The Rangers took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Meghan Gollaher hit into a fielder's choice to drive in Kristina Schweikert from third base followed by a Meghan Weinpress single to center, driving home Amy Skinner who had walked earlier in the inning.
In the third inning, the Saints made the score 2-1 on Jordan Hawthorne's single driving home Joanna Patalano but Spencerport came back with what would prove to be the winning run in the fifth inning. Sophomore Carrie Kazmierski drew a one-out walk, stole second and third on consecutive pitches and scored when the throw from the catcher went into short left field.
Churchville-Chili got within one run in the bottom of the fifth with a run on an infield error and had the tying run on third base and the winning run on second when the last out was made.
Gollaher picked up her ninth win of the season for the Rangers, allowing seven hits while striking out four.
