New York housing market solid in April
Sales of existing single-family homes in New York in April 2001 were comparable to the same period one year ago, according to single-family sales data accumulated by the New York State Association of Realtors. The data showed an average selling price increase of almost 5 percent compared to April 2000.
The April 2001 sales total of 5,742 represents a 1.1 percent decrease from the April 2000 sales total of 5,803. The April sales total fell less than 1 percent from the March 2001 total of 5,784.
The statewide average selling price rose by 4.7 percent to $132,722 from the $126,790 average in April 2000. The April average was just slightly higher (1.4 percent) than the March average of $130,952.
Of the local boards/associates reporting, 18 reported sales gains compared to a year ago and 23 showed increases from March. Yates County (187.5 percent increase) and Cattaraugus County (152.9 percent increase) led the state in terms of sales growth from last April. Clinton County led the state compared to March, posting a 105.6 percent increase in sales.
Twenty-six boards reported gains in average selling price compared to last April, while 25 reported gains compared to March 2001. Orleans County (66.2 percent) and the Northern Adirondack board (32 percent) led the state in average selling price growth compared to a year ago. Orleans County also led the state compared to March with a 31.6 percent increase.
