Students learn about one room school life
The Chili Cobblestone School hosts area elementary students
The Chili Cobblestone School Museum opens its doors to all area elementary schools for field trips.
This year, the 4th grade students from the Wheatland Chili Central School district will be the first to attend. The year scheduled for June 11, 12 and 13 and will be under the guidance of teachers Shirley DeSteffano, Barbara Chapman and other teachers of the Wheatland Chili district.
The visits are part of a unit of study which presents a picture of what one room school house life was like. Students dress in clothes that were similar to those worn in that period of time - the boys in plaid shirts and the girls in long dresses with sunbonnets.
The classes are hands-on with the teacher presenting assignments on subjects from handwriting practice, lessons in local history, to spelling bees.
Chili Historian Jay Widener will be present to welcome the students to the school and answer any question about the school or local history.
The school is also available to any group which wishes to visit, including churches, scouts, or senior groups. Call Widener at 889-3550 ext. 231 or 889-4461 for details.
