Sherry Beth Everhart, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Everhart, Vroom Road, Spencerport, was one of 454 collegians who received degrees at the 73rd Commencement of Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania, on May 20. Everhart, who received her bachelor of science degree, completed her studies in human ecology - interior design. She is a 1997 graduate of Spencerport High School in Spencerport. Her future plans include working at an interior design firm in Rochester.
Elizabeth Brown, a Marietta College student from Spencerport, received the Departmental Award in Applied Music at the Spring 2001 Honors Convocation at Marietta College. The award is given each semester to the student who, in the judgment of the faculty of the Edward E. MacTaggart Department of Music, has done the most outstanding work in applied music study. A junior radio/TV and mass media major, Brown is the daughter of Donna and Steven Brown of Spencerport.
David B.L. Mesa, III, MD, an attending obstetrician gynecologist at Lakeside Memorial Hospital, was re-elected treasurer of the Medical Society of the State of New York.
A Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Meza is the president of the board of directors of the Empire State Medical, Scientific and Educational Foundation, Inc. and MSSNY's immediate Past Commissioner of Education.

Three employees of One Step Tree & Lawn Care, North Chili, earned their Certified Ornamental Landscape Professional designation. Rich Nelson, Mike Boehley and Adam Gallagher completed the study program sponsored by the Professional Lawn Care Association of America (PLCAA).
One Step has been a member of PLCAA for 20 years. The company's owner, Bob Ottley, served as the organization's president in 1999.
Retired Brockport teacher Elsie Epke was recently honored by WROC 8 as Teacher of the Month. Nominated by Ricki DeBaun, Epke was noted for remaining interested in her students' lives long after they left her classroom. Epke is an active participant at the Sweden Senior Center.
Christine L. Hill, of Spencerport, graduated in May from Daemen College, Amherst. A physical therapy major, Hill has accepted a position is a physical therapist at Concentra Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. She is a 1996 graduate of Spencerport High School and the daughter of Bill and Ann Hill of Spencerport.
Christopher R. Ingraham graduated summa cum laude May 19, 2001 from Binghamton University, earning a bachelor of science degree.
He majored in biochemistry and is an honored member in Phi Beta Kappa and Golden Key National Honor Society.
Ingraham will enter medical school at New York University and hopes to pursue a career in surgery.
Melissa Stiles Cavagnaro has graduated magna cum laude from Roberts Wesleyan College with a bachelor of science degree in social work. She is a 1997 E.J. Wilson High School graduate and the daughter of Al and Gail Stiles of Ogden.
Jodie Stewart, a 1997 graduate of Brockport High School, has been awarded a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship to South Korea, where she will teach conversational English to middle and high school students. She will leave for South Korea on July 7 and will spend one year there.
Stewart graduates with honors from Hamilton College this month with a bachelor of arts degree in world politics. A dean's list student, she studied at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London during the fall 1999 semester. At Hamilton, she was head delegate to the Model European Union, a member of the International Relations Group and Hamilton College Young Democrats and worked as a peer tutor. Stewart is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Stewart of Hamlin.
Mandy Cornell, a graduate of Gates Chili Senior High School, received a bachelor of arts degree from The College of Wooster during commencement exercises on May 14. While at Wooster, Cornell was a member of the varsity cross-country and indoor track and field teams as well as the Gospel Choir and Light House Program. A biology major, Cornell is the daughter of Carol and Val Fowler of Westmar Drive.
Lisa Baxter, of Churchville, received the Bauer Early Childhood Education Award at SUNY at Brockport's Spring Honors Convocation. The award is provided by the SUNY Brockport Alumni Association and recognizes a student matriculated in the Department of Education and Human Development and who is pursuing N-6 teacher certification with a strong interest in early childhood education.
Frederick Kimmel, of Holley, received the Pauline Haynes Music Award at SUNY Brockport's Spring Honors Convocation. The award is provided by the SUNY Brockport Alumni Association and recognizes a student who demonstrates exceptional talent, achievement, and performance in voice, piano or a stringed instrument.

Cornell Library Science and Administration Award recognizes a student who has demonstrated scholastic achievement and an excellent work performance in Drake Memorial Library.
Sue Thornton received the Marguerite Rock Ward Memorial Award, which recognizes an outstanding undergraduate in the elementary teacher certification program whose activities at the college reflect a concern for the welfare of others in the college and Brockport.

Earsing has been involved with the Skills USA/VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) and with AWS (American Welding Society). Debra Schulmerich, was tapped for the Outstanding Senior Award in the business-marketing program at Alfred State's annual Honors Convocation. This award is presented to the outstanding senior in the program and it is based on academic ability and the recommendation of the department's faculty. Schulmerich was also a member of the Alfred State Honors Program. She is the daughter of Dennis and Laurie Schulmerich and a 1999 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.
Charles M. Ekiert, member of the Sigma Tau Epsilon Honor Society, was recognized at Alfred State's annual Honors Convocation. While at Alfred State, Ekiert has been on the dean's list. He is the son of Tom and Clare Ekiert of Hilton and a 1997 graduate of Brockport High School.

Alexis Leanna Henshaw, daughter of Mark and Sandra Henshaw of Hamlin, has been accepted for admission to the Trans-Atlantic Masters Degree Program at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. The Trans-Atlantic Masters Program trains graduate students pursuing international careers in administration, diplomacy, business, policy-making, consulting, teaching, and research. Offered by a consortium of world-renowned universities in the United States and Europe, it is a fourteen-month degree program providing students with the opportunity to pursue graduate study at a variety of locations on both sides of the Atlantic while earning a master's degree.
Henshaw is a 1998 alumnus of Brockport High School. She graduated magna cum laude from SUNY Geneseo in May 2001 with a bachelor of arts degree in political science. She received an Outstanding Senior Award and was awarded Honors from the Political Science Department.
She was active in the Model UN and Students for a Free Tibet organizations at Geneseo and was awarded memberships in the Golden Key, Phi Eta Sigma and Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Societies.
Henshaw has attended Model UN and Model EU Conferences at SUNY Brockport, SUNY Fredonia, Harvard University, The University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia, and at Charles University in Prague, The Czech Republic. In November 2000 she represented SUNY Geneseo at the annual Public Policy Conference at The U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Alexis Henshaw hopes to continue the pursuit of her interests in Human Rights in her post-graduate studies at Chapel Hill and Bath University in the UK.
The Starkweather Institute for Integrity in Government presented its first scholarship and internship awards to Rochester native Christina Falco and Lynn Weeg, a resident of Greece.
Falco, recipient of the first Starkweather Scholarship, graduated from Monroe Community College (MCC) with honors in December 2000. A June 1998 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School, she served internships with Assemblyman Charles Nesbitt and with the re-election committee for Louise Slaughter while attending MCC. Falco, who begins her political science studies at SUNY Buffalo in the fall, plans to continue her education by specializing in corporate or international law.
"I feel incredibly honored to be selected as the recipient of the Starkweather Scholarship," says Falco. "The Starkweather Foundation is an exceptional institute - not only because it enables students like myself to pursue their dreams of a career in political science - but because it honors a man who dedicated his life to politics, government and the community."
Greece resident Lynn Weeg, a second year MCC student, has been awarded the Starkweather Institute's first internship. Her responsibilities will include working with the Institute's Director, Edwin Lundberg, to develop programs aimed at bipartisan understanding and support of matters relating to the public's faith in the political process. Weeg will also act as liaison with SUNY Geneseo, Roberts Wesleyan College and other outside agents.
The Starkweather Institute, named after Monroe County's former Commissioner of Elections, the late Ron Starkweather, is the joint initiative of Roberts Wesleyan College, SUNY Geneseo and Monroe Community College.
Trieu La, a senior at Hilton High, is the recipient of the 2001 George H. Scheible Memorial Award for outstanding work in printing. The award, sponsored by the Flower City Printing Inc. of Rochester in memory of its founder, includes a $250 honorarium and an engraved plaque.
La is an honor roll student and a member of the National Honor Society. He was the recipient last year of a Gutenberg Award, a national secondary school printing award. La is also a member of Hilton High's track team and serves as a volunteer on weekends at the Buddhist Temple and at a soup kitchen.

Terri A. Mason has been selected to receive an Army ROTC college scholarship. The cadets are selected for the merit-based scholarship program on basis of their academic record which includes comprehensive test results, school officials' evaluations, scholastic achievement, and accomplishments in extra-curricular, leadership and athletic activities. Upon graduation from college and completion of the ROTC program, the cadet will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, National Guard, or Reserve. Mason is the daughter of Victor L. and Dorothy Mason of Hilton and a 2001 graduate of Hilton High School.
