C-C student wins Gold Key Award
Work is on exhibit in Washington, D.C.
Churchville-Chili Junior High School student Lanh Nguyen has her artwork on exhibit at Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., after winning a Gold Key for her oil pastel portrait of her friend, Christina Kok, in the Finger Lakes Region Scholastic Art Show.
"This incredible achievement is a milestone in Lanh's artistic career, indicative of her dedication and creative abilities," says Jane Betrus, Lanh's Studio Art Teacher. "Considering she is in the eighth grade, and is the youngest gold medal winner in this region, she has a great career ahead of her." Along with other National award winners, Lanh has been invited to attend the awards ceremony at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. the weekend of June 15. Lanh's Gold Key is one of four awarded to students in the Finger Lakes region.
The Finger Lakes Region Scholastic Art Show, held in January, highlighted the best artwork from junior high and senior high school students in a 10-county area. Jurors selected award winners from 1,240 submissions. Churchville-Chili Central School District students won 19 awards. The gold key award winners were sent to the Corcoran Art Gallery in Washington, D.C., to be judged in a national competition.
