Troop 99 scout earns Eagle rank
Michael Sanger, son of Stan and Ann Sanger of Hilton, was awarded Eagle Scout rank at a Court of Honor on June 3. Friends and family were in attendance at the Hilton Firemen's Exempt Club to see him receive Boy Scouting's highest achievement.
Eagle Scout Brett Hendershot and Gareth Schuth escorted Sanger throughout the ceremony. Paul Meyer, scoutmaster, acted as master of ceremonies. Guest speakers included Larry Schuth, assistant scoutmaster, and Rick Beyrle, District Eagle Advisor. Mayor Bill Carter and President of Hilton Fire Department Joe Guck made additional presentations.
For his Eagle project, Sanger developed 600 feet of previously inaccessible trail at Braddock Bay Park. Overgrown brush, grass and tree limbs were cleared and mulch was put down. Mike also built a park bench which was installed facing the bay to benefit the Town of Greece and bird watchers in the area.
Sanger is a senior at Hilton Central School, with plans to attend SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry pursuing a degree in paper science and engineering.
