174,542 pennies collected
Thanks to all of the boys and girls at the Bernabi School who collected pennies ... 174,542 of them, in one week! The reason they were busy collecting all those pennies was for the Relay For Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Teachers, aides, students and friends took turns walking or running at the high school track from 6 p.m. Friday evening until 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9. There were fat jars, skinny jars, tall jars and short jars filled with pennies that the students collected and brought to school. The students even helped count the pennies into five piles of ten and then wrapped them.
A special thanks to the Spencerport Federal Credit Union, M and T Bank, HSBC Bank, ES and L and First Niagara Bank for donating wrappers and accepting all those pennies.
Last, but not least, a special thanks is in order to the children and parents who made this fundraiser so successful.
