Camp Troutburg has space available
The Salvation Army has a limited number of openings available for children wishing to attend Camp Troutburg Summer Camp. Cost of camp is based on a sliding scale and financial assistance is available, making camp affordable for all families. Camp is open for children between the ages of 6 and 12 from Rochester and surrounding communities.
The Salvation Army operates Camp Troutburg in Hamlin, along the shores of Lake Ontario. Children attend the camp for one week, beginning June 22. There are seven sessions available during the summer, but space is limited and parents should register their children soon. Nearly 800 children attend the camp each year. The camp session from July 13-18 is reserved for 11 and 12 year olds.
The camp program is dedicated to developing every child socially, mentally, physically and spiritually. Self-esteem, conflict resolution and social skills development are emphasized. Children participate in sports and recreational activities, arts and crafts, music, science and nature studies. Swimming lessons are available for all children. The camp also contains a small farm with animals and a vegetable garden. Campers stay in modern cabins and children can choose to participate in outdoor camping during each session.
