Marc Filotas, son of Frank and Joanne Filotas, Larkwood Drive, Rochester, has been named to the spring 2001 dean's list at St. John Fisher College in Rochester.

Filotas, a sophomore, is a business/management major.


Carol Anne Cole, of Spencerport, has been named to the dean's list for the spring quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A fourth-year student in the College of Applied Science and Technology, Carole is studying packaging. She is the daughter of Thomas and Judith Cole. A 1997 graduate of Spencerport High School, she will take a position with Kraft in September.


Katherine Burel, a freshman at the University of Rochester, has been named to the dean's list for academic achievement for the spring 2001 semester. Burel, a graduate of Our Lady of Mercy High School, is a resident of Spencerport.


John Nevadomski of Spencerport, has been selected as the 2001 recipient of the George H. Scheible Memorial Graphic Arts Award at the WE-MO-CO Career and Technical Education Center in Spencerport. He received a $250 honorarium and engraved plaque from Flower City Printing Inc. of Rochester, sponsors of the annual award.

A senior, Nevadomski recently took first place in the New York State Vocational Industrial Clubs of America competition and will represent New York in the national championships this month in Kansas City, Missouri. The Spencerport resident aspires to eventually start his own business in the design field.


Gina Montenaro, daughter of Peter and Mary Montenaro of Spencerport, has been named to the dean's list at the University of Notre Dame for outstanding scholarship during the spring semester. Montenaro, a 1998 graduate of Spencerport High School, will be a senior in the university's College of Arts and Letters, majoring in history and Italian.


The following students enrolled in Syracuse University's College for Human Development were named to the dean's list for the 2001 spring semester: Brian McCandless of Brockport, a senior majoring in child and family studies; and Deena Powell of Brockport, a senior majoring in child and family studies.


The following student enrolled in Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications was named to the dean's list for the 2001 spring semester: Shawn Anderson of Spencerport, a sophomore majoring in public communications.


The following student enrolled in Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications was named to the dean's list for the 2001 spring semester: Jessica Martin of Brockport, a sophomore majoring in television-radio-film.


Carol VanDerKarr of Brockport, a doctoral candidate majoring in higher education in the School of Education at Syracuse University, received the Graduate School All-University Doctoral Prize at the school's awards convocation held May 12.


Jacquelyn Butler, of Bergen, has been named to the spring 2001 dean's list at Daemen College.


SUNY Oswego has awarded merit scholarships to more than 400 incoming students, including three local residents. They are: from Hilton, Jason M. Barton received a $13,640 Presidential Scholarship and Russell S. Korn received a $13,640 Presidential Scholarship; and from North Chili, David W. Johnson received a $13,640 Presidential Scholarship.


Andrea Sherry Emens, a 1997 graduate of Spencerport High School, has graduated from the University of Rochester receiving a bachelor of arts degree in biology. A dean's list student, Emens will pursue a career in the field of genetics.

She is the daughter of Anne Dennis and Thom Emens. Her grandparents are Bud and Jean Sherry of Churchville and Homer and Helen Emens of New Mexico.


Elizabeth Weinpress, the daughter of Mike and Eileen Weinpress of Spencerport, has been named to the spring 2001 dean's list at SUNY Albany. An English/ communications major, Weinpress is a starting middle on the Division I Women's Volleyball Team.


The following students are on the dean's list for their outstanding academic achievement for the spring 2001 semester from Harpur College at Binghamton University: Jill M. Lowell of Holley; Megan E. Kincaid of Spencerport; and Marie E. Lloyd of Spencerport.


Greg Dolby of Hamlin, Mary Kirk of Holley, and Patrick Hanscomb of Hilton have been named to the All-Academic team at the SUNY Brockport. Dolby competes in track and is a physical education major. Hanscomb is a wrestler. Kirk is a swimmer majoring in physical education.


Amy Hargather of Churchville has been named to the All-Academic Team and the Commissioner's List at SUNY Brockport. She plays softball and is a physical education major.


Adam Tramonto, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Tramonto of Moul Road, Hilton received the Student Achievement Award-Irondequoit Council of the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Class of 2001 at Bishop Kearney High School.


Heather Shultz, of Hill Road, Hilton, has been named to the dean's list for the spring quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A second-year student in the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences, Shultz is studying biomedical photography. She is the daughter of Richard and Dorothy Shultz of Hill Road, Hilton and is a 1999 graduate of Hilton High School.

Shultz is also working for the U of R Medical Center on a 10-week internship in the Pathology Department doing biomedical photography.


Rachael Ann Shevlin of Hilton, graduated this May cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Albany, State University of New York.


Megan E. Bush, a junior at Niagara University, is now attending the Summer Study Abroad Program at Schiller International University, London, England. While she is there she will be studying English Literature and Drama and also visiting France and Italy.

A 1999 graduate of Brockport High School, she is the daughter of Perry and Luise Bush of Hamlin.


Christine L. Hill of Spencerport graduated in May 2001 from Daemen College in Buffalo. A physical therapy major, Hill has accepted a position at Concentra Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland as a physical therapist.

She is a 1996 graduate of Spencerport High School and the daughter of Bill and Ann Hill of Linda Lane, Spencerport.


North Chili resident Deborah Chrysler was honored with a testimonial dinner in celebration of her completion of a two year term as president of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Monroe County Firemen's Association. Chrysler will serve the county as a director and will also move up to the office of first vice-president in the Western New York Fire Auxiliary. She has been a president of the Chili Fire Auxiliary and is a member of Northern Central as well as a member of the New York State Fire Auxiliary whose state convention is in Rochester this August.


After seven years of service in the Hilton Fire department, Bill Porter has achieved what must be every volunteer firefighter's goal, to become a career firefighter. On June 8, Porter was sworn into the City of Rochester Fire Department as a firefighter. He is a 1989 graduate of Hilton High School. Upon graduation he joined the Navy and served as an Engineman from 1989-1993, during which time he married Jill Berback, also of Hilton.

In 1994, both Bill and Jill joined the Hilton Fire Department as active firefighters and later completed EMT training. Bill Porter served as an active firefighter until earlier this year when he moved to the City of Rochester.

Bill's parents, Bill and Kathy Porter, are Village of Hilton residents.


The University of Dayton has named more than 2,000 students to the dean's list for the winter semester of the 2000-2001 academic year. To be named to the dean's list at UD, a student must achieve a superior academic record, which is a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. So honored was Christopher McKnight, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick McKnight of Spencerport.


Cheryl Haggstrom, of Spencerport, has been named to the dean's list at Florida Gulf Coast University. To be eligible for the dean's list, a student must complete at least 12 credit hours of regularly graded coursework during a term with a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.9.


Jan Lloyd has been an active member with the Hilton Fire Department for over 15 years. She joined the ambulance corps in March 1977 because she had a desire to get in to the Public Safety profession. She was already an American Heart Association CPR Instructor and she became an EMT in 1978 and Hilton's EMS Training Director in 1979.

In 1980, Lloyd became the first female Lieutenant of the ambulance corps. A longtime resident of Hilton, Lloyd has been married to her husband Dave for 22 years and has been a Public Safety Dispatcher for 911 for 21 years. She took a leave of absence from the Hilton Fire Department from 1981 to 1988 to have her two children, Matt and Jennifer.

When Jan returned to the department in 1988 she continued to take on many different roles. She was a Crew Chief in 1989, again an EMS Lieutenant from 1991-1993 and the EMS Captain from 1994-1996. She participated on the Monroe-Livingston Training Committee from 1990-1995, has been an EMT Lab Instructor since 1990 and has been on the Critical Incident Stress Management Team since 1999. Lloyd also has participated on many departmental committees such as the Ambulance Fund Drive, the Property Committee and the By-Law Committee. Although she has taken on all these roles and many more over the years, her biggest accomplishment came just this past April when she was awarded the Monroe-Livingston BLS Provider of the Year for 2000.

Jan Lloyd says she continues to be so active in the Hilton Fire Department and the EMS Community because she gets a lot of personal gratification from helping others. And after all these years she still enjoys being in the Public Safety profession.


Andrew Wermuth graduated from the SUNY Ranger School in Wanakena, New York in May 2001 with a bachelor's degree in environmental science and forestry.

Wermuth is a 1998 graduate of Churchville- Chili High School and is the son of Karen Wermuth of Baker Street, Churchville.


Rebecca Stankevich of Rochester, was named to the spring dean's list at American International College, Springfield, Massachusetts.

The physical therapy major is the daughter of Donna Stankevich.


Alison Roach of Spencerport was one of 285 graduates to participate in commencement exercises at Houghton College in May.

Roach graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in French.


Christopher B. Koegel, son of Robert and Mary Koegel of Rochester, received a bachelor of arts degree from Williams College at the college's 212th commencement exercises on Sunday, June 3. The mathematics major received the Class of 1957 Scholarship, was named to the dean's list, and graduated cum laude.

He was a College Council all-campus representative, junior advisor, played lacrosse, was a senior advisor and teacher's assistant for math and philosophy while in college.


Donald Lehman, of Creekside Lane, Ogden, has been named to the dean's list for the spring quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A first-year student in the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences, Lehman is studying Industrial Design. He is the son of Stan and Sharon Lehman and a graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.


These students were promoted to Black Belts at the Caparco Karate Dojo in Chili. Justin and Travis Cody, 2nd Degree Black Belts; Junior Black Belts were given to Kelsey Alyce Egan, Katy Willison and Jake Duell.


Kyriakos Deriziotis, a junior majoring in biological science/biochemistry at the University of Rochester, has been named to the dean's list for academic achievement for the spring 2001 semester. Deriziotis, a graduate of Spencerport High School, is a resident of Spencerport.

Air Force Airman Justin R. Harris has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Harris is the son of Robert Harris of Thistlewood Lane, Spencerport. He graduated from Spencerport High School in 1999.


Navy Ensign Bradley J. McCreedy, son of Lorie S. and John J. McCreedy of Hosmer Road, Churchville, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and was commissioned to his current rank in the United States Navy.

McCreedy is a 1997 graduate of Caledonia-Mumford Central High School.


Thomas B. Younker has graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and was commissioned as a second lieutenant.

The graduate served as an academy cadet senior officer who provided leadership, motivation and direction for the cadet wing and demonstrated effective officership in support of unit mission objectives.

The new lieutenants go on to serve as pilots, navigators, engineers, maintenance officers, professionals in various technical fields, and some attend medical or graduate school with special scholarships while others go directly to non-rated Air Force-wide assignments. Younker is the son of Thomas S. and A. Gail Younker of Underwood Avenue, Hilton. He is a 1997 graduate of Hilton High School.


Ian A. Shelley has been awarded an Air Force ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) college scholarship.

The cadet was selected on the basis of comprehensive test scores, high school scholastic achievement, school officials' evaluations, and extra-curricular activities. Upon graduation from college and completion of the ROTC program, the cadet will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force.

He is the son of Paul R. Shelley of Beadle Road, Brockport and Pam K. Shelley of Kendall. He is a 2001 graduate of Brockport High School.


Cadet Shawn C. Callahan, son of Michael and Wanda Callahan of Hilton, graduated from the United States Military Academy on June 2.

Callahan graduated from Aquinas Institute in 1996. While at West Point, he concentrated his studies in international relations. He has branched military intelligence and will attend Officer Basic Course at Ft. Huachuca, Arizona.
