New leader appointed for Byron-Bergen School District

Gregory Geer, Ed.D., is the new superintendent of the Byron-Bergen School District, effective August 1. Dr. Geer has served as principal of Eastridge Junior High School in the East Irondequoit District since 1996. His previous experiences include senior high house principal and K-12 library and instructional technology administrator for the Cortland Junior-Senior High School, and assistant principal at Churchville-Chili Central School. Before becoming an administrator, he was a Social Studies teacher at Mexico Academy and Central School in Mexico, NY.

Dr. Geer's wife, Patricia, is a speech-language pathologist for the Rochester City School District. Their son, Colin, will be entering fifth grade.

At Eastridge Junior High, Dr. Geer's accomplishments include implementing a computer-managed Academic Intervention Services program, writing a "Learn and Serve" grant for a technology center, and re-structuring the school's special education program to become an inclusive, co-teaching system. Many of his efforts have been focused on helping at-risk students, and on the implementation of computer technology.

He will succeeding Dennis Kirst, who is retiring after serving as Byron-Bergen superintendent for six and one-half years.
