Ogden Bears has openings for 2001 season
The Ogden Bears of the Western New York Pop Warner Football Conference still have openings on most levels for the upcoming 2001 season.
The Bears will field teams in football and cheerleading on all levels, including the new Flag Football division for youths ages 5-6 as of July 31. While there are very limited openings on several levels such as the Mitey Mites (ages 7-9), Jr. Pee Wees (8-10) and Pee Wees (10-12), there are plenty of spots available on the Jr. Midget (ages 11-13, weight up to 125) and Midget (ages 12-15, weight up to 145) levels. Absolutely no experience is needed. Players are placed on levels by weight and age. Age is determined with a July 31 cutoff.
Also, there are many spots available for cheerleading on all levels.
There is no residency requirement to play for the Ogden Bears. Registration fee for flag football is $50, tackle football $85 and cheerleading $60. There is a $20 discount each for two or more participants. All remaining spots will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis via the mail.
Also, Ogden is looking for several football coaches. The Bears are seeking two head coaches for the new flag football program and a head coach and assistants for the Jr. Midget level. Head coaches must be 21 years old and assistants at least 18 years old.
The Bears practice at Pineway Ponds Park in Spencerport and all home games are played there. Practice begins on Wednesday, August 1 with the regular season slated to begin on Sunday, September 9 when Ogden welcomes the Chili Lions to Pineway Ponds Park. The Bears play a seven-game schedule, not including playoffs, scrimmage or exhibition games. For Information call President Brian Mazurek at 247-5965 or Vice-President Chuck Tucker at 352-0280.
