Hazardous waste collection scheduled
Monroe County's Department of Environmental Services, along with the Towns of Clarkson, Sweden, Hamlin, and the Village of Brockport, will co-host a regional Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection at the Clarkson Highway Garage at 3623 Lake Road on Saturday, August 11, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. All drop-offs are by appointment only.
In addition, Volunteers of America will be on-site to collect clothing, shoes, housewares and small appliances. Tax receipts will be given for textile donations. The following hazardous materials are acceptable at the mobile HHW drop-off site: Products containing mercury, such as thermometers and thermostats; pesticides and fertilizers; household cleaners; wood preservatives and stains; oil-base and latex paints; chemical drain cleaners; thinners, solvents and strippers; syringes/sharps; pool cleaners and photo chemicals; soaps, waxes, and cleaners; gasoline, kerosene and other flammable products; antifreeze, brake and transmission fluids; rechargeable (Ni-Cad) and button batteries ; and driveway sealer.
