Michael Lane, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lane of Hilton, received an associate in arts from Oxford College of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia at its 156th commencement ceremony on May 12.


Jeff Lynch, of Spencerport, has been named to the dean's list for the spring quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A fifth-year student in the College of Applied Science and Technology, Lynch is studying computer science. He is the son of Terrence and Susan Lynch and a 1997 graduate of Spencerport High School.


Sixteen student pianists from the studio of Barbara Woods in Spencerport performed in the New York State Music Teachers Association Greater Rochester District Student Achievement program in June. The program consists of evaluations in keyboard skills, written theory, and piano performance. Those participating were Andrew Callan, Kristin McCannon, Tessa Fox, Vy Dihn, Steven Burek, Nathaniel Heale, Melissa Heale, Yonghee Cho, Stacey Baumler and Laura Clemm. Six high school students competed in the high school honors division and all six were awarded association plaques for achieving grades of 95 percent or above. They are Ben Heale, Sabrina Agro, Kathleen Carroll, Youngsun Cho, Emily Liu and Elaine Loggi.

Nazareth College's first Raymond Shiner Jazz Award has been presented to senior Brian Wilkins, a trumpet/music education major from Greece. The $400 award is given to a music major with motivation and talent in jazz and is to be used for private study in that area of music. Wilkins has been playing jazz trumpet for the past 12 years. He is also the recipient of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award and is a former member of the 1998 Monroe All-County Jazz Ensemble.


Kristy Lima of Rochester recently graduated from Liberty University. Lima received a bachelor of science degree in communication studies.


Nancy McGuire of Spencerport, received a MBA/TM degree when the University of Phoenix Online held its graduation ceremony on June 30 at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort in Phoenix.


Kathryn Gagne, a freshman majoring in biology at the University of Rochester, has been named to the dean's list for academic achievement for the spring 2001 semester. Gagne, a graduate of Spencerport High School, is a resident of Spencerport.


Matthew Thomas, son of Arthur and Priscilla Thomas of Rochester, has graduated with honors from Rochester Institute of Technology. A 1996 graduate of Spencerport High School, Thomas earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in industrial design from the School of Imaging Arts and Sciences.


Gavin Hickey, a junior majoring in biology at the University of Rochester, has been named to the dean's list for academic achievement for the spring 2001 semester. Hickey, a graduate of Spencerport High School is a resident of Spencerport.


Leasa Herman, of Churchville, has been named to the spring 2001 dean's list at SUNY Brockport.


The United States Achievement Academy has announced that Christine Longer from Albion, has been named an All-American Scholar. The USAA has established the All-American Scholar Award Program to offer deserved recognition to superior students who excel in the academic disciplines. The All-American Scholars must earn a 3.3, or higher, grade point average. Longer is the daughter of Kelly and Tim Irwin of Albion and the granddaughter of Glen and Karin Longer of Hilton and Eleanor Irwin of Albion.


Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has announced the names of students who made the dean's list for the spring semester. The dean's list recognizes full-time students who maintain grade-point averages of a minimum of 3.0 and have no grade below "C": James Bogdanowicz, of Spencerport; Stephen De Bellis, of Rochester; Allyn B. Hill, of Spencerport; Amy Kohler, of Hilton; Vi H. Nguyen, of Rochester; Eric Russell of Spencerport; Kyle Spear of Rochester; David Strong of Rochester; and Edward Vossler of Rochester.


Ryan Hickey, of Spencerport, has accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars and will be honored during a campus ceremony this fall at Syracuse University. The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) is a selective, national, non-profit honors organization. Founded in 1994, NSCS recognizes first and second year undergraduate students who excel academically. Hickey has an athletic scholarship and plays for the Men's Soccer Team.


Johnson & Wales University has announced that the following students have been named to the dean's list for the spring term ending in May: Sarah Penepent, of Bergen, a culinary arts major and Monisa Fisher, of Spencerport, a baking and pastry arts major.


Emily Ugino, daughter of Richard and Joan Ugino of Hilton, was named to the dean's list for the spring 2001 semester at Saint Michael's College, located in the Burlington area of Vermont. Ugino is a junior political science major, and a graduate of Our Lady of Mercy High School.


Laura Hart, daughter of Len and Julie Hart formerly of Spencerport, has been named to the spring 2001 dean's list at Keuka College. Hart, a junior, is studying elementary education.


Kelly Boerschlein and Katrina Schmidt have been recognized as this year's recipients of the John and Eda Reinhardt scholarships at the First Presbyterian Church of Chili. The scholarship fund was established in 1992 by Eda Reinhardt. The $1,000 scholarships are available to qualifying young men and women who are part of the church family. Selection is "based primarily on academic performance in high school with consideration also given to contributions in extracurricular school activity, community service and church involvement." Through 2000, sixteen scholarships have been awarded.

Both students graduated from Churchville-Chili Central School. This fall Boerschlein will attend Ithaca College and Schmidt will attend St. John Fisher College.


Melissa Knitter, a sophomore majoring in biology at the University of Rochester, has been named to the dean's list for academic achievement for the spring 2001 semester. Knitter, a graduate of Hilton Central High School is a resident of Hilton.


Kristen M. Thornton of Spencerport, daughter of David and Nancy Thornton, has been selected by Quinnipiac University as one of the country's most outstanding campus leaders by Who's Who Among Students In American Universities and Colleges.


Navy Lt. J. G. Eric W. Hahn, son of Julia A. and Jeff W. Hahn of Spencerport, recently graduated from the Basic Civil Engineer Corps Officer School. Hahn is a 1989 graduate of E. J. Wilson High School and joined the Navy in May 1993. He is a 1994 graduate of the University of Rhode Island, with a BSME degree and a 2000 graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology with an ME degree.
