Ogden Commission accepts Parks & Recreation report
At their May meeting the Ogden CASE (Commission to Analyze Savings & Efficiency) accepted a final Parks & Recreation report. The report recommended that as the town develops and moves forward, there becomes a real need for a formalized prioritized master plan for this department. Program needs, facilities and future parks should be studied, pursued and recommended to the town board.
Ogden Supervisor Gay Lenhard was pleased with the results of the report. She said that the primary recommendation of establishing a master plan for the department was critical to the community. She added that with the continued growth and demand for more recreational services and parks, it is imperative that the town plan on how it will accommodate the recreational needs of the residents.
The report also indicated that Glenn Boetcher, Parks & Recreation Director, along with his team, has made great strides in developing a legitimate parks and recreational program as it stands today. It pointed out the creative skills and dedication that was necessary to achieve these goals.
While the report was in process, a number of upgrades were achieved in Pineway Ponds Park, according to Lenhard. Restroom facilities have been added, which were partially funded by a $50,000 grant from a Monroe Community Development Block Grant. The wooden playground was replaced, which was partially funded by a $14,000 surplus from the Ferris Goodridge Post Moving Wall event. The parking lot has been surfaced and striped, as well as Park Road has been widened to allow for easier accessibility.
