Patterned after the "Adopt a Highway" program that helps keep roadside clear of litter and debris, the Canalway Trail Association is encouraging groups to "Adopt a Canal Trail."

Brockport resident Bill Andrews has suggested that the Town of Sweden sponsor such a project for the segment of canal that passes through the town. The town board expects to pass a formal resolution doing so at its July 24 meeting.

Andrews will then search for a group or groups that are interested in taking on the service project.

"Anything we can do to enhance the canal in our community will bring a benefit to all of us," Andrews said. Anyone interested in the project can contact Andrews at 637-3721
