Elvis Presley Festival set for August 11
Elvis Presley never visited Parma Center during his lifetime, but he'll be very much in evidence there on Saturday, August 11, when the Parma Meetinghouse Museum hosts an Elvis Festival from noon until 5 p.m.
Memorabilia including unpublished photographs and assorted collectibles will be shown from noon until 2 p.m., when some of his beloved Gospel music will featured. Three Elvis impersonators, from Hilton, Brighton and Gates, will present live renditions of his songs from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., there will be a cutting of a replica wedding cake at 3 p.m., refreshments and autographed historical books will be available and a drawing will be held for a king-sized butterfly quilt. Donald Cox of North Chili will provide an antique cabinetmaking and woodworking demonstration. Dan Andrews, Rick Wrisley and Samuel Duck will recreate Elvis, with Duck's program, "Levi's Tribute to Elvis," concluding the stage events.
The parking lot adjacent to the museum will be reserved for disabled guests and staff workers, but horse-drawn rides to the festival will be provided by McCracken Farms. Although admission is free, those desiring seating should bring along a chair. In keeping with Presley's refusal to drink or smoke, no alcoholic beverages will be allowed.
Whether you want to remember how great it was a half century ago when Elvis revolutionized the music scene, or if you just want to show the present generation how it was back in the days of bobby socks and poodle skirts, plan to be at Parma Center for the August 11 program, or in the event of rain, on Sunday, August 12. The museum is located west of the intersection of Routes 18 and 259, two miles south of Hilton.
