Holley adds pageant to celebration

The Village of Holley will host a Sesquicentennial Queen Pageant to choose representatives from three age groups to reign over the Sesquicentennial Festivities on August 4.

On Friday, August 3, young ladies who attend Holley Central Schools or live in the Holley area, are eligible to compete in the pageant. Girls age five to eight will vie for the Duchess title; ages nine to 13 for the Princess title and 14-18 for the Queen title. The pageant will be held at Holley Jr./Sr. High School.

Contestants for Duchess will compete in a party dress and an on stage interview that leads to answering the question, "Why Do You Like Living in Holley?" Princess contestants will compete in a party dress or gown, have an onstage interview and read an original story about a real or make-believe experience they have had in Holley. The Queen will announce events throughout the day of the Sesquicentennial Festivities and will be expected to be able to speak freely in front of a group as well as to individuals. Therefore, the contestants for the Queen division will have a private interview with judging panel, compete in a gown, give up to a three minute speech about and answer an impromptu question about Holley.

All contestants will participate in the Grand Parade on Saturday evening. Contestants will meet Saturday, July 21 at 1 p.m. at the Holley Canal Park Gazebo.

Applications are available in the Village Office. Further information can be obtained by calling directors Roxane Gifaldi (638-6218) and Penny Cole (638-8315).
