Congressional Cemetery Project

One Step Tree and Lawn Care of North Chili participated in the Professional Lawn Care Association of America's (PLCAA) Renewal and Remembrance project at Congressional Cemetery in Washington, DC on July 16 and 17. One Step Vice President Greg Adams and Tree Care Division Manager Rich Nelson joined other association members from across the country to help refurbish the deteriorating graveyard.

For the past decade, Congressional Cemetery has been on the most endangered list of historic places by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. It has been a victim of vandalism and neglect for many of its 190 years.

Efforts such as the PLCAA project are helping to restore the cemetery, which is the final resting place for more than 60,000 notable Americans. Among them is John Phillip Sousa and Civil War photographer Matthew Brady. The Congressional Cemetery project is part of PLCAA's twelfth annual Legislative Day on the Hill. In addition to volunteering at the cemetery, One Step staff visited the offices of New York legislators to discuss environmental and industry issues.
