Pops concert brings melodies to Brockport's Art Festival
The Brockport Symphony, Brockport's own symphony orchestra, is just one of the musical highlights for this year's Brockport Summer Art Festival, August 11 and 12, on Main Street, Brockport.
The concert will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 12 at the Market Street Entertainment Stage (corner of Main and Market streets in Brockport). It will feature music from some of Broadway's greatest musicals including "My Fair Lady," "Man of LaMancha," "The Sound of Music," and "Les Miserables."
"The audiences is in for a real treat," says conductor James Walker. "It's perfect music for a summer afternoon. These works have some of the most enduring melodies ever written. It's also a pleasure to welcome Brian Clickner, tenor, and Jeannie Hines, soprano, as soloists. This repertoire is their specialty and I know the audience will have a great time."
Brian Clickner is no stranger to Brockport audiences. Last season he sang the tenor solos for BSO's "Messiah." He is also the director of the SUNY Brockport College Community Chorus.
Jeannie Hines says she is thrilled to be making her 'debut' with the BSO. She has sung with many local and regional theatre groups, and has performed with Brian Clickner in local productions of "The King & I," and "The Gondoliers." Equally at home with operatic repertoire, she will be competing for the Young Artists program at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.
Sally Ann Hart, well known flutist from the Rochester region, Principal Flute with the Brockport Symphony, will be performing a brilliant set of variations on "The Carnival of Venice" by Briccialdi. In addition, Shawn Michalek will perform the "Flight of the Bumble Bee" for marimba and orchestra.
Like all other musical acts during the Brockport Summer Art Festival, the Pops concerts is free and open to the public.
