Public input requested for L.O. Parkway safety study
To be included in Extensive Lake Ontario State Parkway Safety study this month
Anyone interested in the safety study of the Lake Ontario State Parkway (LOSP) is invited to attend one of the two public meetings that will be held later this month. The results of the study that focuses on accidents involving bicyclists and pedestrians will be presented. Attendees will also have an opportunity to provide input from their point of interest. These meetings are the second attempt to include public input.
The first of two public meetings will be held on Tuesday, August 21 at the Town of Kendall Town Hall in the Community Room at 7 p.m. The address is 1873 Kendall Road in Orleans County.
The second public meeting will be held the following Tuesday, August 28 at the Greece Town Hall at 7 p.m. The address is One Vince Tofany Boulevard, in Monroe County.
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation in partnership with New York State Department of Transportation is administering a safety study of the Lake Ontario State Parkway. The study began in the summer of 1999. The State Parks Department owns the 35-mile highway and the NYSDOT maintains it. The study is state funded and is led by the engineering consultant, Erdman Anthony Associates, of Rochester.
The ultimate objective of the study will be to recommend safety improvements based on public input, accident analysis and the structural conditions of the pavement and bridge infrastructure.
Drafts of the LOSP Safety Study Reports was distributed to each of the affected town halls, town libraries and elected officials in July 2001 for public review. Additional comments can be sent directly to Erdman Anthony & Associates, Inc., Attn: Marc Kenward, 2165 Brighton-Henrietta Townline Road, Rochester, NY 14623.
